One Village
Globalization, the internet, and social media have made the world smaller. Practically everyone seems to be connected to everyone else. The world appears like a village where everyone knows everyone. But how interconnected are we really?
I explored this question in the photo project “One Village.” My research focused on Gelsenkirchen-Ückendorf. The result is a portrait series that, taken as a whole, represents a linear network.

Reaction Chain
During COVID, the way we connected with others changed. Keeping our distance became the norm. Visits weren’t always possible—or safe—so we turned to video calls, virtual hangouts, and social media. It reshaped our friendships, our relationships, and how we’ll connect in the future.
For this project, participants shared selfies. Each picture shows a person as an individual, but together, all the photos show a sense of community
